Is there shopping nearby?
Downtown Greenville is 5.5 miles strait down Lilly Bay Road and offers many gift shops and other tourist attractions.
Are there any Moose tours in the area?
You can either spend a couple hours in a guided boat safari, or if you are a little more adventuresome, take a kayak tour through Northwoods Outfitters.
We have had many moose walk right through our yard, and even on our driveway throughout the seasons. The area of Prong Pond located behind our cabin is a prime feeding and bathing area for moose.
Do you allow pets in your cabin?
No. We do not allow any pets.
Is your cabin located on the Moosehead Lake waterfront?
No. We are set back in a private wooded area approximately 3/4 miles from a boat launch for the lake. Prong pond is within walking distance and is a shallow pond, approximately 9 miles around, and small boats, canoes, and kayaks are welcome there.
Can we rent a boat to take out on Moosehead Lake?
There are a lot of outdoor activities to do, including boating on Moosehead Lake. The cabin is situated right near Lilly Bay State Park, and there are a lot of interesting things you could do. Not to mention Prong Pond which is right out your back door! You could rent canoes, kayaks, or other items from Northwoods Outfitters downtown. To rent a boat for the lake, visit Beaver Cove Marina, located just down the street from where you enter the neighborhood.
When is "Black Fly Season"?
There is actually no single, uniform "black fly season." The maps in the Maine Nature News archive are based on scattered local observations. But, there is enough information there to draw some tentative general conclusions for some locations in Maine.
I hear the night skies are clear and you can see a lot of stars. Is this true?
UNBELIEVABLY true! At night, when the moon is new and the skies are dark, you can see more stars than you ever thought were possible. At the right time of night, my family and friends and I have tracked satellite after satellite shooting north across the night sky. Meteor showers happen all the time, and it doesn't take long to catch a shooting star!
Where can I go to rent snowmobiles?
You can go to the Northwoods Outfitters for snowmobiles. The trail system is literally right out the front door of the cabin. Enjoy!
Are there any golf courses nearby?
You have Mount Kineo Golf Course and Squaw Mountain Village golf Course. Both are 9 hole courses that give you pricing for 9 or 18 hole rounds. The Kineo course is challenging!
